More than 40 million cases of COVID-19 and 1.1 million deaths have been reported globally as of October 18, with over 2.4 million new cases and 36,000 new deaths reported over the past week alone, data from the World Health Organization (WHO) released on Tuesday show. Of those numbers, the United States alone, accounts for more than 8.2 million infections and 221,000 deaths.
