Three people have been shot dead and three others are injured after a man opened fire at a bowling alley in Rockford, Illinois, police said.

Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea said an active shooter situation was reported at 7:15 p.m. CT at Don Carter Lanes.

O’Shea said one person of interest was in custody, and that there was no longer any threat to the community.

Police did not disclose any motive for the shooting or the identities of of the suspect and the victims.

“UPDATE: Suspect is in custody. This is an active and ongoing investigation. If you have any further information, please contact us at 815-966-2900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 815-963-7867,” Rockford Police tweeted.

“Please continue to stay away from Don Carter’s area on East State Street. It’s still an active situation and officers are continuing to clear the area,” police added.
