Tulinabo S. Mushingi was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. as the United States Ambassador to Angola and has been serving in this capacity since February 9, 2022. He is the first naturalized citizen born in Africa to serve as a U.S. Ambassador to an African nation.
In 1957, Ambassador Mushingi was born in what would become the Democratic Republic of the Congo once it gained independence. He earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree before moving to the United States where he earned a Master’s degree from Howard University and a PhD from Georgetown University. From 2017 to 2022, Mushingi served as the United States Ambassador to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. Before this, he was Ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2013 to 2016.
