Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and controversial oil magnate, Femi Otedola, have been named as members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election campaign council.

Dangote and Otedola were appointed as members of the “special advisory committee” to President Buhari, the President’s spokesman Femi Adesina said in a statement sent to TODAY NEWS AFRICA in Washington D.C.

In a follow up statement, Adesina said Dangote was not a member of the campaign council but failed to clarify what his role would be and why his name appeared in his first statement with those who would be advising Mr Buhari for re-election.

“It has become imperative to further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head ADVISORY MEMBERS in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018.

“Africa’s richest man, not being a card-carrying member of APC, cannot, and is not member of the PCC. He is also a member of the Peace Committee, and thus cannot be in a partisan campaign council,” Adesina said.

President Buhari’s spokesman said Mr Buhari himself would be the chairman of the campaign council while Lagos politician Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be the co-chairman.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and the ruling APC National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, would be deputy chairmen respectively.
