President Muhammadu Buhari‘s main opponent in the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, and his party, the People’s Democratic Party, are officially challenging his election victory in court.
Atiku, a former Vice President and billionaire businessman had rejected the election results, saying that mass rigging, including in Borno where Boko Haram has been wreaking havoc for 10 years, was widespread.

Local newspaper, Premium Times, quoted Mr. Abubakar’s lead lawyer, Chris Uche, as confirming that the processes were being filed.
A court had earlier approved the PDP’s application to be allowed access to materials used for the election but blocked the party’s move to have the materials forensically examined.
