Biden congratulates Trudeau on election victory

U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Tuesday spoke with Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada to congratulate him on the Liberal Party’s victory in the September 20 federal elections, the White House said.

“The two leaders underscored the strong and deep friendship between the United States and Canada, and discussed their shared commitment to strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of the U.S. and Canadian economies and coordinating on COVID-19 pandemic response,” the White House said in a brief statement about their private conversation. “The President expressed to Prime Minister Trudeau his desire to continue working closely and deepening collaboration with Canada – one of our nation’s top partners.”

Trudeau’s party won the federal elections but did not secure an absolute majority he needed to implement badly needed reforms.
