Buttigieg was an early candidate for the 2020 U.S. election. He saw early successes in the presidential race during the Democratic primaries before he was overtaken by Bernie Sanders and then Joe Biden.
The 38-year old Buttigieg is the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who has never held federal office.
Buttigieg had been rumored to be the Biden nominee for China.
