Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has not tested positive for coronavirus after a handshake with President Trump, he said on Friday after reports in his country said he had tested positive for the virus that causes a respiratory disease known as COVID-19.

Local newspapers had reported that the results of a second test on the Brazilian president would be known on Friday.

Journal O Dia, a major newspaper in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, reported that President Bolsonaro had tested positive for coronavirus.

President Donald Trump and Bolsonaro had diner at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday night and shook hands. 

Bolsonaro was checked for the disease after his aide Fabio Wajngarten tested positive for coronavirus.

But on Friday, Bolsonaro said he tested negative for the novel coronavirus, after reports suggested that he tested positive.

After O Dia, a major Brazilian newspaper,  on Friday reported that he’d tested positive, Fox News later confirmed the news.

Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo told Fox News that further testing was being done to confirm the diagnosis and that they expected results later on Friday.

The Brazilian president later said on Twitter that he tested negative, adding, “DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE MEDIA FAKE NEWS!”
