The House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against Trump, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The lawmakers said Mr. Trump abused his power when he pressured the Ukrainian President in a July phone call to investigate a political adversary former Vice President Joe Biden and then obstructed Congress when it tried to investigate.
The case now moves to the Senate where Republicans hold a majority and where Trump is expected to survive.
But, nothing is sure, as Republicans may also decide to replace Trump with Vice President Mike Pence when the trial is concluded in January 2020.
