Africa is experiencing the longest running decline of COVID-19 cases yet, according to the World Health Organization.
The number of cases and deaths related to COVID-19 in Africa have dropped to their lowest levels since the onset of the pandemic in April of 2020.
COVID cases peaked with 308 000 cases weekly at the start of the year and are now down to less than 20,000 at the beginning of April 2022.
Because of the decline in infections, several African countries are relaxing previously held COVID-19 restrictions such as surveillance and quarantine.
