Our website, todaynewsafrica.com, had great original content from across Africa, but we were still not ranking high on Google, until we made the changes I am about to share with you so you too can replicate them and start ranking high on Google.

Our company spent a lot of money to design our website and position it on the World Wide Web market.

We had a great idea, we hoped to become the most reliable African newspaper in the United States, serving a big continent of 55 countries and 1.2 billion people.

The idea was good, the articles and perspectives were also good, but there was a problem. People were not seeing what we were publishing and as a result, we were not attracting advertisers and making money, because our traffic was not good.

The problem, we thought, was no longer the content, but the promotion of our content. we were right. It was just that we did not know what we needed to do to rank high on Google until one day, we discovered the secrets.

In this article, I will share with you the five things you need to do right away to start ranking high on Google from tomorrow morning.

I would talk specifically about those who are using WordPress Content Management System or CMS.

If your website if on WordPress, you need to do the following things immediately to start ranking very high on Google right away.

  1. You need to give your site a name that can easily be recognized by search engines. Ours is TODAY NEWS AFRICA. We publish news about Africa on the go. So simple and clear.
  2. You need to do this other implementation, which I realized was the most important thing to ranking high on Google. Once you have chosen your name, you need to define the tagline on your WordPress dashboard. You need to define what your website is all about. This would help search engines to immediately understand what your entire website is all about. If you do not enter a good tagline, then search engines would be confused.
  3. You need to install Yoast SEO. It’s a free plugin and all you need to do is to install and activate it. It’s one of the most important plugins that would create a sitemap for your site. That sitemap is what would guide search engines to your content, taking them from one page to another and from one story to another.
  4. Once you have your name set, your tagline set, and your Yoast SEO set, you need to configure your Yoast SEO plugin to make it guide search engines to your content. You would need to set keywords and say what you want to be indexed on your website. These settings are so important that without them, you can have the best website on earth but no search engine would be able to successfully and effectively crawl your website.
  5. This last tip is one of the most important tips that no one would share with you. I learned it when our website was rejected by Google News before we were later included. When Google crawls your site, it’s not enough to have the best content on earth, there is something called accountability. Google wants to know that someone is accountable for the content on your site. I hate repetition, but let me repeat this, if no one is responsible for your content, you would not be included in Google News, and therefore rank higher. This is because Google wants to know that someone is taking responsibility for what is being published, that means that someone can be held accountable if something went wrong and take credit if everything was amazing. The way Google checks this is by ensuring that your footer or footnote has the following items. a. You need to have a contact page. Google wants to ensure that you are a real person who can be contacted, email, phone number, physical location. b. You need to have a privacy policy page. Google wants to know that you respect and take responsibility for your readers information that may be left on your website via the cookies. c- You need to have an ethics page. Google wants to know that you abide by the ethics of the profession and if anything went wrong, you would be held accountable for failing to uphold the ethics you yourself specified. d- Google also would love to ensure that you have a team page. That means, you are not just one person doing this, but that real people are behind the content and can take responsibility for it.

Google has more than 200 things it looks at to rank websites, including fake news, copying content from other websites, not aggregating content from others, not giving attribution, not having a fast website, not having a mobile responsive website or a great content that stands out in your niche. But, you can have all those things, if you failed to have the five things I have listed above, even with the best content, you would still not rank high on Google.

TODAY NEWS AFRICA began ranking very high on Google after we understood those five things and implemented them. Do them and give your website a month and you would see the difference it has made.
