United States President Joseph R. Biden Jr. met with Senegalese President and chairperson of the African Union Macky Sall during his visit to Germany for the G7 Summit this week and discussed a range of topics including food insecurity and vaccine production. The White House and western leaders have pushed the narrative that hunger in Africa was caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, and have tried to rally African nations and officials against President Vladimir Putin.
When that did not seem to work, especially as many observers have pointed out that hunger in Africa was caused mainly by severe drought in the Horn of Africa, instability, terrorism and mass displacements on the continent, lack of fertilizers and access to proper tools to farm, in addition to the devastating climate change and insects eating crops, the United States Senate began preparing a bill around April to punish African governments and nationals working with Russia, but not against European and Asian nations still doing business with Moscow.
