Nigerians continued to be outraged on Monday after a senator revealed that each Nigerian senator is given a budget of close to $40,000 a month to be used on expenses of their own choice.
Everyone of the 109 Nigerian senators also earns a salary of more than $2,000 a month, in addition to a yearly constituency budget of $500,000.
Why it matters: The minimum wage in Nigeria is $50 a month.
Senator Shehu Sani, a governing party politician revealed the figures last week, and called for the scrapping of the payments.
The revelations triggered outrage and condemnation from ordinary Nigerians and the civil society.
