More than 80 million Americans have already voted, according to data compiled by the U.S. Elections Project, putting the 2020 elections on track to shatter records.

That number is higher than all the early votes cast in 2016 and more than 58.1 percent of all the votes counted in 2016.

Of the 80 million Americans who had already voted as of Thursday afternoon, 51.9 million mailed in their ballots while 28.1 million have voted in person, the data show. There were still 39 million outstanding mail ballots.

The data show that voters have requested a total of 91,007,338 ballots in the reporting states.

In the battleground state of Texas, more than 8.4 million people have already voted, representing more than 94.1 percent of all votes counted in 2016, while in the other battleground state of Florida, more than 7.3 million people have already cast their votes, representing over 77.1 percent of all the votes counted in 2016.

In California, more than 8.4 million people have already voted, representing 58 of all the votes counted in 2016.

In another battleground state of North Carolina, more than 3.8 million votes have already been cast. This represents 81.1 percent of all votes counted in 2016, while in the other battleground state of Ohio, more than 43.8 percent of all the votes counted in 2016 have already been cast, the data show.

In the battleground state of Pennsylvania, more than 2.1 million people have already voted, but that number is just above 34 percent of all the votes counted in 2016.

Election Day is in five days, and with about five million votes being cast every day, roughly 100 million Americans would have voted by November 3.

Early voting seems to favor Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and President Donald Trump is banking on the belief that his voters would turn out on election day. But on election day, everyone may turn out, making it difficult for Mr. Trump to win re-election.
