New poll finds strong majority of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of COVID-19

U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is enjoying high approval ratings early on in his presidency, with 60% of Americans approving of his overall job performance and 70% approving of his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that the President has an overall job approval rating of 60%, receiving 94% approval amongst Democrats and 22% amongst Republicans.

Mr. Biden scored even higher approval ratings for his COVID-19 response, with a 70% approval rating for his handling of the pandemic. He received a 97% approval rating on the issue amongst Democrats and 44% amongst Republicans.

The President has, however, received much less bipartisan support for his handling of the economy, receiving a 55% approval rating in this area amongst all adults. While 88% of Democrats approved of the job the President has done handling the economy, just 17% of Republicans felt the same.

Thus far in his presidency, Mr. Biden has made it clear that responding to the pandemic is his top priority, promising to ramp up vaccine production and distribution as well as calling on Congress to pass the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
