WASHINGTON – Suspectedmilitants on Saturday killed at least 65 people who were returning from a funeral in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno, state television reported on Sunday.
The assailants killed 21 people returning from a funeral and another 44 people who regrouped to defend themselves, local government chairman, Mohammed Bulama, said on state television.

Bulana said many others were injured and the death toll may rise.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killings, but Boko Haram and a rival group, the Islamic State in West Africa, are likely to be blamed.
President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attack and directed the military to hunt down the perpetrators.
