North Korea’s state news agency says Kim Jong Un has appeared in public

North Korea’s state news agency KCNA said on Friday that Kim Jong Un has appeared in public but the report could not be verified independently.

AP reported that the pictures of his appearance have not been released.

KCNA said Un attended the completion of a fertilizer plant in a region north of the capital, Pyongyang.

It was the first report of his public activity since April 11, per The New York Times.

Kim Jong Un was rumored to have died or that he was in a vegetative state after a reported heart surgery.

The rumors began after Kim missed North Korea’s most important annual ceremony on April 15, marking the birthday of his grandfather and the regime’s founder, Kim Il-sung, per Axios.

The ceremony takes place during a major holiday in North Korea.

Kim usually pays a visit to the mausoleum where his grandfather lies in state, per Reuters.
