Prosecutors working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating the Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election in the United States, have accused President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, of attempting to tamper with witnesses.
Manafort tried to contact witnesses by phone and through an encrypted messaging program, Mueller said in court documents.
AXIOS reported that Mueller, who has indicted Manafort on charges including money laundering and bank fraud, asked the federal judge overseeing his case to revoke or revise an order releasing Manafort ahead of his trial.
President Trump had indicated that he may pardon those found guilty in the Russia investigation, including himself. He tweeted that he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself.
