President Biden Nominates Key Leaders for Ambassadorships and Board Position

President Joe Biden announced today his intent to nominate key individuals to serve in his administration. The nominees include Edgard D. Kagan for Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malaysia, Nathalie Rayes for Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Croatia, and Steven L. Swig for Member of the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Edgard Kagan, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, has extensive experience in the State Department’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Kagan has served in various roles, including Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai, India, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. embassies in New Delhi, India, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He currently serves as the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania at the National Security Council.

Nathalie Rayes brings a wealth of public service experience to her nomination as Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia. She currently serves as the President and CEO of Latino Victory and has held key positions with Grupo Salinas, Fundación Azteca America, and in the office of Los Angeles Mayor James K. Hahn. Rayes serves on several boards, including the United States Institute of Peace and the Hispanic Federation, and was appointed to the Board of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars during the Obama-Biden Administration.

Steven L. Swig, nominated for the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, is a co-founder of Freedom to Prosper, an organization dedicated to the full cancellation of student debt. Swig’s experience spans law, real estate, and education, including serving as a Fellow and later Senior Fellow at Harvard University’s Advanced Leadership Initiative and co-founding Presidio Graduate School. He currently holds leadership roles in several organizations, such as the Solar Electric Light Fund and Americans For Cures.

These nominations signal President Biden’s commitment to appointing experienced and diverse leaders to key positions within his administration. The nominees will now await confirmation by the Senate.
