Republicans considering removing Trump from power following riots at U.S. Capitol

Multiple news outlets in Washington D.C. are reporting that Republicans are considering removing President Donald Trump from power with only about 13 days to go.

Reports say Republicans are considering either impeaching the president or invoking the 25th Amendment that will leave Vice President Mike Pence with the responsibility to lead the nation for a few days before Joseph R. Biden Jr. is sworn in on January 20, 2021.

News outlets quote sources from current and former White House and GOP Hill aides, and Republican lobbyists and political consultants.

Vice President Pence will need enough cabinet members to invoke the 25th amendment.

The call for removal from office comes after Mr. Trump incited his supporters to storm the Capitol.

In a tweet, Mr. Trump praised the rioters, calling them “very special” people.
