Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, has accused the US and its allies of sabotaging the North Stream pipeline. During a Twitter Space conversation on Friday organized by Shukri Abdirahman, Polyanskiy stated that there are indications that the US and its allies were behind the sabotage, and expressed his belief that the West is not interested in the truth and does not care about the consequences of their actions.
The conversation was initiated by French journalist Freddie Ponton, who asked the ambassador about the US and UK vetoing the possibility of a UN Security Council resolution to investigate the attacks on the North Stream pipeline.
Polyanskiy explained that Russia was promoting an initiative in the UN, which only sought to analyze the situation and present ideas for an international investigation. He emphasized that Russia does not want to see a world where it is possible for everyone to blow up infrastructure outside of their own country.
Ponton also asked the ambassador about the February press conference in Washington, where President Joe Biden and the German Chancellor discussed pulling the plug on Nord Stream Two. Polyanskiy stated that everyone should be suspicious given the facts and the situation’s development. He expressed sadness over Germany’s passiveness and lack of interest in investigating the crime.
White House Correspondent Simon Ateba directed a question towards the Ambassador, asking about his thoughts on how the Russia-Ukraine war can be resolved, leading the conversation towards the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Polyanskiy stated that Russia would be ready for negotiations provided that these negotiations lead to the peaceful implementation of the goals of their special military operation. He explained that these goals are a normal desire of a normal country to see a peaceful neighbor at its border and not a hornet’s nest threatening its security and suppressing its own Russian-speaking citizens.

The Twitter Space conversation provided an important platform for the ambassador to express his views on significant issues affecting Russia and its relations with the West.
Polyanskiy emphasized the need for transparency and dialogue to resolve conflicts and move towards a peaceful and stable world order. However, his accusations against the US and its allies of sabotaging the North Stream pipeline are likely to further strain relations between Russia and the West.
For over a year, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raged on, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people with no resolution in sight. Despite China’s proposal for negotiations, the United States has rejected any negotiation that does not involve or benefit Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns of a potential World War Three and the deaths of millions due to potential miscalculations.
