After a sustained rise in infections over the past two weeks, a fifth wave of COVID-19 in South Africa may come earlier than anticipated.
The country only exited its fourth wave earlier this year after experiencing its worst surge during the last quarter of 2021.
Cases began falling regularly in February but last week, infection rates surged and are still rising. South Africa is currently recording several thousand cases a day.
