House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Donald J. Trump from power immediately for inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol building on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington DC, Pelosi said Congress may be prepared to impeach Trump if the vice president did not immediately invoke the 25th Amendment.

The 25th Amendment would remove Trump from power and put Pence in charge until Joseph R. Biden Jr. is inaugurated on January 2021.
“I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment,” Pelosi said.
“If the vice president and cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”
Pelosi spoke even as Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer was calling for the removal of Trump from office.
Schumer described the riot in the U.S. Capitol building as “insurrection against the United States.” He said President Trump should not hold office “one longer.”
