The United States is providing an additional $488 million in critical humanitarian assistance to the people of Ethiopia as an historically unprecedented drought threatens the survival of more than 8.1 million people, and more than $12 million, subject to congressional approval, in new development assistance to Senegal. Both arrangements are provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
