U.S. shatters new coronavirus record with 77k infections in one day and nearly 1000 new deaths

The United States reported 77,255 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday and 943 new deaths, according Johns Hopkins University latest tally.

More than 138,000 people have died from coronavirus in the United States, the worst death toll in the world, and over 3 million Americans have contracted the potentially deadly bug, also the worst number of infections in the world.

With hospitalizations going up, health experts were warning that more deaths would likely be recorded in the coming days and weeks.

For instance, in Texas and Arizona, morgues were filling up in the hardest-hit areas and officials were bringing in coolers and refrigerated trailers to store bodies.

In some areas, patients have to wait on a stretcher for many hours before being examined due to lack of resources.

As many Americans die, and many more contract the virus, the debate seems to center around whether people should wear face masks in public or not.

Some states are taking matters into their own hands and are issuing orders requiring people to wear masks in public.

Colorado, Arkansas, Alabama and Montana require face masks in public places when social distancing is impossible.
