The European Union, United States, United Kingdom, and Canada on March 22, 2021, announced coordinated sanctions on four Chinese government officials and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Public Security Bureau. The following quote can be attributed to Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch:|
“The unprecedented coordinated sanctions on China send a clear message that there’s a price to pay for the relentless repression of Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang.
These are Canada’s first human rights sanctions on China, and the first by the European Union since the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre. But the need remains for an independent international investigation into the serious human rights violations still taking place.”
