At least 27 people died in Yola bomb blast on Friday afternoon, Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency said, and 96 others were injured.
A spokesman for the agency, Sani Datti, said the injured have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, and the Specialist Hospital Jimeta , Adamawa state.
“About 27 persons died and 96 injured in today’s explosion at Jambutu Mosque during Juma’at prayer. Injured victims were evacuated to Federal Medical Centre, Yola and Specialist Hospital Jimeta , Adamawa state,” Datti said in a short statement.
The Yola blast happened just hours after another suicide attack killed many people in Maiduguri.
Boko Haram has killed at least 4,000 people this year alone, and about 2,000 since President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn into office, promising to crush the “godless, mindless” militants within few months.
The latest blasts also occurred shortly after the Nigerian army issued “a final warning” to Boko Haram members to surrender or perish.
In neighbouring Cameroon, populations stood along roads and streets and were encouraging troops as they moved to Kerawa in an attempt to retake the fallen town from Boko Haram
The town of Kerawa in the district of Kolofata in Cameroon’s far north region fell to Boko Haram terrorists on Friday morning and their flag was hoisted there, in another blow to boasts by long serving President Paul Biya that the terrorists will be crushed.
The town was eventually taken back from Boko Haram and the Cameroonian army entered the Nigerian territory in pursuit of the terrorists.
It was the first time a Cameroonian town had fallen to Boko Haram.
President Barack Obama deployed 90 troops to Cameroon last week Monday as an advance force of 300 to help the West and Central African country battle Boko Haram.
And President Biya vowed last week that Cameroon will defend itself and crush the terrorists who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in March.
But with dozens killed in Cameroon this week by Boko Haram and with a town now in the hands of the terrorists, many have begun to say that the long serving President who has ruled the country by decrees for 33 years, has failed.
