Vatican says same-sex unions are ungodly, illicit, issues decree banning them

The Vatican issued a decree on Monday ordering priests not to bless same-sex unions, saying they are “not ordered to the Creator’s plan.”

The decree approved by Pope Francis described homosexual unions as not being “licit.”

“The blessing of homosexual unions cannot be considered licit,” the biggest church in the world said.

The decree applies to the Roman Catholic Church around the world.

Last year, the pontiff called for the creation of civil laws for same-sex couples to be legally covered, a proclamation that seemed to give hope to many gay Catholics who have hoped for more openness inside the church.
