When Children Fuck, They Must Know How To Be Fathers: Inside Davido’s Baby Scandal

Although we are headquartered in Washington D.C. USA, our reporters and editors are working around the globe to cover what you care about. We invite you to donate to our fundraiser to help us keep our quality news free and available for all.

The love or sex affair betwen 23-year old hip hop star, David Adedeji Adeleke, better known as Davido, and 27-year old Sophie Momodu, has long collapsed and the baby the relationship brought forth is now a subject of kidnapping, human trafficking and bitter wrangling between the immature boy and the older woman.

In Nigeria, a 23-year old boy often dates a girl of 16, 17, 18 or 19 years old. It often takes them some years before they begin to have sex, usually after marriage and the blessing of their extended families.

But Davido, born November 21, 1992, is an American-born Nigerian recording artist, performer and record producer, who found fame early in life in 2011 when he was just 18 years old with his single  “Dami Duro”.

Along with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke, Davido is now the co-owner of HKN Music, and has produced for numerous artistes including Naeto C, Skales and Tiwa Savage.

When he met Sophie, it did not take long before they began doing it and before long Sophie became pregnant in 2014 and on 14 May 2015 Aurora Imade Adeleke was born, a lovely girl.

But with fame and girls all around the music star, the 27-year old mother became too old for him, and the relationship crashed. The baby remained with the mother for just two months until July last year when according Sophie Momodu’s lawyer, Mr. Gbolaga Ajayi, she was tricked.

The rest is contained in a petition the lawyer wrote to the NAPTIP, the Nigerian agency that deals with human trafficking. The letter was published in The Punch newspaper.

You can read how a two month old baby girl was separated from her mother in Lagos as written to NAPTIP by the mother’s lawyer.

“Our client, a 27-year-old, is the biological mother of a baby girl with name, Aurora Imade Adeleke, who was born on the 14th day of May 2015. The baby’s father is Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke (aka Davido). The father and mother are unmarried.

“On the 11th July, 2015, our client was tricked into visiting the house of Mr. David Adeleke’s half sister – Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke ─ with her baby, Imade Aurora Adeleke. After getting to the house on Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, our client’s baby was forcefully taken from her and she was thrown out of the premises with the threat that she would be decisively dealt with if she ever bothered to return there.

“There were armed policemen on the premises and our client’s survival instinct made her leave her breast-suckling baby behind, with so much pain in her heart.

“When Mrs. Modupe Mofikoya, the immigration officer who attended to the Adeleke travelling party accosted Ashley Adeleke and asked for the mother of the baby, she claimed that she was the mother. Immediately, the immigration officer on duty collected her Nigerian passport, she quickly absconded from the scene with the baby. Her father, Mr. Deji Adeleke, showed up shortly afterwards to clear his daughter’s mess.

“Our client, with the help of her family members, including Mr. Dele Momodu, determinedly resisted the attempt by Miss Ashley Adeleke and her father from taking away Imade Adeleke from Lagos. Our client believes that the pair are trying to take the child to America and thus put her out of the reach of the biological mother.

“At the moment, Miss Ashley Adeleke and our client’s daughter, Imade, are still in Lagos and their respective passports are in the custody of the airport immigration services.’’

The family is threatening to go to court. Just threatening……..

Just one question: how do you separate a two month old baby from her mother without any court order? Only in Naija!

When children fuck, they should know how to be fathers, not by kidnapping.
