White House Announces President Biden’s Hosting of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on June 8 for Official Working Visit, Strengthening Global Partnerships and Addressing Key Issues

The White House announced on Tuesday that President Joe Biden will be hosting Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom for an Official Working Visit to the White House on Thursday, June 8.

The purpose of the visit is to deepen the partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom, focusing on crucial global issues such as support for Ukraine, energy security, climate crisis, and economic cooperation.

The leaders will also address the ongoing developments in Northern Ireland, reaffirming their commitment to preserving the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, said in a statement.

“President Biden looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom for an Official Working Visit to the White House on Thursday, June 8 to further deepen the close and historic partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom,” Jean-Pierre said, adding that during their meeting, President Biden and Prime Minister Sunak will engage in comprehensive discussions on various global matters.

Key areas of focus include support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s aggression, collaboration to strengthen energy security, addressing the urgent challenges posed by the climate crisis, and efforts to enhance the economic relationship between the two countries.

Additionally, the leaders will review the ongoing developments in Northern Ireland, underscoring their shared dedication to preserving the progress achieved through the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.

The Official Working Visit serves as a significant step in reinforcing the robust alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom. President Biden and Prime Minister Sunak aim to deepen their partnership and address critical global and bilateral issues during this highly anticipated visit.
