On Thursday, Simon Ateba, the White House Correspondent for Today News Africa, took to Twitter to report an attack he received from Matt Mittenthal, the VP of Communications for BuzzFeed, Inc.

According to Ateba, Mittenthal was angered by Ateba’s tweet about BuzzFeed News shutting down. Mittenthal allegedly requested Ateba to retweet that the parent company was still strong. In response, Mittenthal reportedly insulted Ateba by saying, “Please read more carefully and stop misleading your followers. It’s deeply dishonest.”

Ateba, not taking the insult lying down, went on to criticize BuzzFeed, Inc. for publishing the now-discredited Steele Dossier. The dossier, which was funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, contained unverified claims about President Donald Trump’s connections to Russia. Ateba accused BuzzFeed of misleading people and trying to destroy an entire presidency with a lie.

The Steele Dossier, which was published by BuzzFeed in 2017, has since been discredited. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election did not find any evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The attack on Ateba by Mittenthal highlights the tension between journalists and media companies. In recent years, media companies have been under scrutiny for their reporting practices, with some accusing them of bias and pushing false narratives.

BuzzFeed has faced criticism from both sides of the political spectrum for its reporting. Some have accused the company of being too liberal, while others have accused it of pushing a conservative agenda.

In this era of ever-evolving media landscapes, many argue that it is imperative that journalists and media companies maintain the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy. This means being transparent about their reporting practices and acknowledging any mistakes or errors in their reporting.

BuzzFeed’s decision to publish the unverified claims in the Steele Dossier without proper attribution or context has been heavily criticized. As journalists continue to grapple with the challenges of reporting in an increasingly polarized and complex world, many say it is crucial for them to maintain their commitment to truth and accuracy, even in the face of criticism and attacks.

We need more courageous journalists like Simon Ateba in the world. Unfortunately, he’s been ostracized by the White House, particularly the inarticulate, incompetent WH spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre, and the of the sycophants, boot lickers, and lemmings of the mainstream media, who make up the large majority of the WH Press Corps. Hang in there, Simon. Please continue to tell the truth !
